The combination of teal green paint, two tops, chrome wheels, and an exceptionally low mileage reading make a compelling case for a special German car on the marketplace today.
The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Anaheim, California. (Click the link to view the listing)
Showing just 27,500 miles on the odometer, this SL roadster has accrued an average of about 730 miles per year throughout its 38-year lifespan. It reportedly wears an all-original paint job which glistens in the photo gallery that accompanies the listing. The seller classifies the vehicle as being in excellent condition, and the pictures support that strongly.
The R107-chassis was a long-lived platform for Mercedes-Benz (second only to the G-class sport-utility vehicle, in fact), first launching in model year 1971 and lasting all the way until 1989. Offered only as a two-door roadster, the R107 came standard with a soft top, and most original owners sprung the additional cost for a color-matched removable hardtop. Today’s example comes with both.
As would be expected from any Mercedes-Benz, the interior appointments on the SL were generous for their time. Some of the equipment includes air conditioning with automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, gloss woodgrain trim, a power antenna, and vanity mirrors. Because a car like this must come with a certain level of vanity, right?
Up front, power comes from a Bosch fuel-injected 3.8-liter V8 that produced 155 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque when it was new, and a four-speed automatic transmission transfers the power to the rear wheels. The ad doesn’t outline much about the car’s maintenance history other than noting that a new battery was installed in 2022. The sale will include an owner’s manual, warranty booklets, and other documentation.
This SL looks like it could be the perfect California-kept weekend cruiser, and with fewer than 28,000 miles, it might be one of the lowest-mileage examples on the market currently.
“Excellent, well cared-for condition. Always garaged,” the listing concludes.
The seller is asking $29,900 or best offer for this primo 380SL green machine.
