Audi is currently in the process of giving the e-tron SUV, and its Sportback sibling, a bit of a nip and tuck. So far we’ve seen some spy photos of both the e-tron SUV and the Sportback version, doing some public testing while wearing camouflage. Now, though, Audi decided to release some proper photos of its own and in them we can see the Audi e-tron S Sportback wearing camo on its front and rear ends.
It’s hard to tell what’s changed through the camouflage in these photos, as the car looks pretty much the same. However, I’m sure Audi made some changes to keep it looking fresh, even if the changes are minimal.
What’s interesting is that a press release that came along with the photos talks about the driving dynamics of the Audi e-tron S Sportback. Which makes me wonder if Audi made any significant changes to the way the car drives. There are rumors that Audi made big changes to the battery pack of the e-tron, providing more range. Could it be that Audi also added more power and better performance? It’s unlikely, given the typical nature of Audi’s mid-cycle facelifts, but it’s not impossible, either.
“An Audi driver has to be able to feel it’s an Audi – in the form of harmonious, distinctive driving characteristics,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. “The genes of the Audi feeling should be an unmistakable experience for the customer.”
There are also rumors that Audi is changing the e-tron’s name with the facelift. If so, it could become the Audi Q8 e-tron S Sportback, which would be a lot less confusing than the current setup. Just calling it the “e-tron”, without any “A” or “Q” designation causes confusion as to which model it actually is. Though, there’s no official word that Audi’s changing the name.
No word on when the Audi e-tron facelift will officially debut but expect it sometime this year, sold as a 2023 model.
