VIDEO: Audi RS e-tron GT — Better Than the Porsche Taycan

Since the launch of the Audi e-tron GT, and its sportier RS-branded sibling, it’s been compared to the Porsche Taycan and for good reason. Both cars are built on the same J1 architecture, the same battery pack, and the same powertrain. However, they’re both tuned quite differently and, since its debut, the Taycan has typically been seen as the better car. But is that actually true or can the Audi take it down? In this new video from The Straight Pipes, we find out.

There’s no question, the Audi RS e-tron GT is properly fast. Its dual electric motors make 590 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque in normal conditions. However, for just two and a half seconds, it gets a temporary 637 horsepower during launch control. That allows the RS e-tron GT to get to 60 mph in about three seconds.

But how does the Audi RS e-tron differ from its cousin in Stuttgart? It’s a bit softer, more comfortable, and more relaxed than the Porsche, even if it’s every bit as fast. While looks are subjective, many enthusiasts feel the Audi looks better, due to its sexier body lines and more interesting headlights. It handles well, too, but it definitely has more of a grand-touring feel to it than the Taycan, which is more of a sports car.

Choosing between the two cars really is a matter of taste. Do you want something sportier, something that’s more of a true sport sedan? If so, the Porsche Taycan is probably for you. However, if you want something a bit more comfortable, a bit more stylish, and a bit better at long-distance cruising, the Audi RS e-tron GT might be the best choice. However, what’s probably even better is just the standard e-tron GT, as it’s almost as quick as the RS model, nearly $40,000 cheaper, and looks identical while sportier a better range.
