To mark Barrett-Jackson’s half-century in business, in this special series we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite moments from the past 50 years – as well as some little-known facts about The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions.
What better way to say “I do” to your collector car passion than getting engaged – or even married – at Barrett-Jackson? For true enthusiasts, exchanging vows surrounded by some of the world’s most remarkable collector cars is a unique way to mark the start of a new life with their partner. A handful of couples have tied the knot at the Scottsdale Auction in the Showcase Pavilion, with unsuspecting auction guests becoming a part of the celebration. After the big moment, the happy newlyweds were off to the auction arena to start a honeymoon like no other.
There were several famous couples who did not exchange vows at Barrett-Jackson, but they did exchange some stunning vehicles as wedding gifts that later crossed the world-famous auction block. In 1976 Frank and Barbara Sinatra were wed – and what better gift for a new bride than a sophisticated blue over beige 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow? The beautiful Rolls crossed the auction block at the Scottsdale Auction in 2016.
At the 2013 Scottsdale event, a striking silver 2002 Aston Martin DB 7 convertible given to Ben Affleck by Jennifer Lopez as a pre-wedding gift went over the block. In 2015 (as part of the epic Ron Pratte Collection), a 1940 Ford Woody Wagon reportedly given to Mrs. Kales (of coachbuilders Whitehead & Kales) by Henry Ford as a wedding gift was sold to its new owner.
Of course, the “Honeymoon Cadillac” in which Elvis and Priscilla Presley motored around Memphis after their nuptials must be mentioned. The 2014 Las Vegas Auction crowd was “All Shook Up” when the brilliant red 1967 Coupe de Ville made its trip across the block.
After weddings come anniversaries – and Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis has his magically timed with company milestones. The year 2021 marks not only the 50th anniversary of Barrett-Jackson but also the 25th year of Steve officially joining the team. And here’s more magic: 2021 is also the 50th wedding anniversary of Steve and his wife Janie, another member of the Barrett-Jackson family.
Whether you say “I do” at one of the Barrett-Jackson auctions to the love of your life or the car of your dreams, joining in the passion and camaraderie that defines the collector car hobby is certainly something to celebrate.
