At the moment, European journalists and publications are testing the new Audi e-tron GT and its performance variant, the Audi RS e-tron GT. Being one of the major European automotive publications, Carwow was able to test the RS version and, unfortunately, broke it a bit.

In reality, Carwow’s Mat Watson barely broke it. While testing the front trunk, Watson did the obligatory “can I fit inside of it” test, where he sat in it. While trying to get out, he broke a piece of plastic. Not the end of the world but, knowing how German car execs feel about journalists breaking things in test cars, they were likely not very happy at all.

The Audi RS e-tron GT is the high-performance variant, which packs 590 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. However, there’s also an overboost function that temporarily bumps power to 637 horsepower for just eight seconds. In Watson’s tests, the RS e-tron GT was able to hit 60 mph in just three seconds flat. Though, that was admittedly using Audi’s own on-board timing software. We wonder how it would do with independent GPS-based timing gear and if it would be different.

He also liked the way the car rides and handles, even though he was only able to test it for a short time, on relatively boring roads, due to limited press access to the car.

So what’s Mat Watson’s verdict on the Audi RS e-tron GT? There’s a lot to like about it; it’s very fast, has a great ride, handles well and has a nice interior. So he recommends you “Shortlist” it. It’s very good but if you want something with a further range, a Tesla Model S is still probably your best bet. However, if you want a sportier, better looking, more exciting, more interesting car, the Audi RS e-tron GT is still a fantastic machine that boast 200-plus miles of range, which is more than most people will ever need.
