When the current-generation Audi SQ5 first debuted, it proved to be a surprisingly good car but had one major criticism — fake exhaust tips. The SQ5 wasn’t the only car on the market to have fake tips but it was among the most egregious. Its flat, black plastic plates where its exhaust pipes would go were painfully, obviously fake and cheapened the entire look of the car. So when the new facelifted model debuted, many fans were happy to see that you could get real exhausts.
In this new video from The Straight Pipes, we get to see a video review of the newly facelifted Audi SQ5 and much of the review focuses on its new real pipes. As standard, the SQ5 still gets fake tips, which is a bit disappointing for an ‘S’ car. However, if you opt for the upgraded sports exhaust, you actually get real exhaust tips and, in typical Audi ‘S’ car fashion, four of them.
Not only does it look better but it sounds better as well. Audi’s 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 isn’t the most musical of engines but, with the optional exhaust upgrade, it does sound quite good. It even gets nice little *brap brap* noises on full-throttle upshifts. So it sounds sportier than your average Q5, as it should.
As for the rest of the car, not much has changed. It’s still quick but not as fast as its competition. Both the BMW X3 M40i and Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 are faster. It also handles well enough but also not as well as its two main competitors. Still, it’s a good looking, comfortable and fast crossover that should fit the needs of all of its customers. If you want something a bit faster, go with either of its rivals but if you want something that might be a better blend of style, tech and comfort, the Audi SQ5 is tough to beat. Plus, it no longer has exhausts. Sort of.
