Back when the Audi e-tron GT Concept first hit the scene, most of the automotive world was stunned by its striking good looks. With its low, long and muscular design, the e-tron GT Concept was instantly one of the prettiest EV designs in the world. We all hoped that Audi would keep at least most of its design when it finally shifted the e-tron GT toward production. Thankfully, that seems to be the case, according to Audi Design Boss Marc Lichte.
During a recent interview with Car and Driver, Lichte admitted that 99-percent of the concept car’s design would make production. In fact, the only things that Audi needed to do to get the concept production-ready were to add door handles and remove the glowing lights. That’s really it.
However, the process of that was actually in reverse. Typically Audi takes a production design and makes an exaggerated concept out of it. In the case of the Audi e-tron GT, however, the design team felt that the production car was already so good looking, requiring almost no modification for concept car-duty.
“I took out the e-tron GT, the production car, and we had a look at it. Usually, for a show car we put bigger wheels on. We chop down a little bit of the roof, and we make the track a little bit wider. So we stress everything. We took a look at our production cars and said, Why should we change this car?” Lichte told Car and Driver.
Lichte also states that the interior will remain mostly the same as well. Its futuristic cabin with its dual-touchscreen setup will stay as they are on the concept. So it should be a fabulous interior.
It’s incredibly refreshing to see such a bold design make it to production. Typically, concept cars have absurdly exaggerated features that wouldn’t even be legal on a road car. The Audi e-tron GT Concept wasn’t a true concept car, though, as it was really just the production car without door handles.
