A little while back, we learned about Audi’s upcoming Project Artemis, an all-electric autonomous vehicle for the future. The Artemis, with its codename “Landjet”, is supposed to be a car that changes the brand moving forward. What does that mean, exactly? Well, Car and Driver recently spoke to Audi design boss Marc Lichte, who gave a bit of a hint as to what this so-called Landjet is going to be.
“We will come up with a radical new concept. This car looks completely different,” Lichte told C&D, claiming that it would change how Audi designs cars and interiors.
The idea is that the Landjet will be a super-high-end luxury car with advanced autonomous technology. Audi has seen the stranglehold that Tesla has on the EV market, especially in regard to semi-autonomous driver aids, and the Germans want a slice of that pie. In fact, the Project Artemis “will be a revolution,” according to Lichte.
At the moment, there’s no word on its specs, or really anything. The only things that we know are that it will be very high-end, it will be able to travel far distances on electric power alone and it will have the most advanced autonomous saety tech Audi can muster.
We also know that it will be built on the new PPE all-electric architecture, shared by Audi, Porsche and Bentley. It’s also being designed as we speak by Lichte’s team in his design studio. According to Lichte, its interior will be completely different from Audi’s currently on sale.
So when can we expect the Audi’s Project Artemis, aka Landjet, to arrive? According to Audi, this electric, autonomous car will make its debut in 2024, so it’s still a few years away but that also means we might see something with more advanced autonomy than the Level 2+ we’re seeing right now.
