Since the debut of the Audi e-tron, it’s been catching some flak for its lack of range and performance, versus cars like the Tesla Model X. Same goes for the newer Audi e-tron Sportback, which is essentially the same car, just with a haircut. In this new video from FullyChargedShow, we take a look at the Sportback model to see if there’s more to it than just a lack of competitive range.
This review is quite comprehensive and surprisingly optimistic. Sure, it still lacks a genuinely competitive range, with only around 220 miles of real world range, and it’s quite an electron-thirsty machine, averaging around 2.8 miles per kWh. However, there’s actually a lot to like about the Audi e-tron Sportback.
For starters, it’s a very luxurious car to drive. It’s quiet, comfortable and very high-tech. Its infotainment system works extremely well, and is praised by a Tesla owner in this video, and it’s also shockingly practical, despite its sloping roofline. The side wing cameras can be a bit problematic but not a deal-breaker.
One interesting aspect of this review is that it makes a good point in that the e-tron Sportback isn’t an alternative to the Tesla Model X. That’s not what it’s supposed to be. Instead, the Audi e-tron Sportback is designed to be an alternative to the Audi Q8.
The idea is that, if you’re looking for a big, hulking luxury SUV, go for an electric one rather than a gasoline one. Start helping out the environment, rather than waste more fuel on a mammoth SUV. With the e-tron Sportback, you’re not only getting the more efficient, more responsible car but also getting the better car. It’s quieter than the Q8, more luxurious and more stylish, all while being more efficient.
So if you’re in the market for a big, luxury SUV, regardless of powertrain, give the Audi e-tron Sportback a look. It’s not perfect but it’s still a very good EV.
