For decades, The Stig has been thrashing cars around the famed Top Gear test track, trying to get the fastest possible time from each and every car he (she?) laps. In this latest video, from a recent episode of Top Gear, we get to see Stiggy lap the Audi RS6 Avant and it looks surprisingly good.
We already knew the RS6 Avant was a fast car, though we always thought it was more of a straight-line bruiser than a track-focused scalpel. While it still isn’t the latter, The Stig just proved that it’s better on track than we previously thought it would be.
From the cockpit view of Stig’s Audi RS6 Avant lap, we can see that it understeers a bit but that’s to be expected from a front-heavy, Quattro-equipped Audi wagon. However, it isn’t nearly as bad as we had expected and actually rotates better than most fast Audis not called “R8“. Once it’s coming out of the corner, though, its all-wheel drive grip and immense power help it regain any speed it lost on corner entry.
It’a also seriously quick in a straight line, thanks to its 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 590 horsepower and 591 lb-ft of torque. We know it’s not as fast as its competitors, the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63, in a straight line but we’re wondering if it keep up with them in the corners, now that we know it’s no slouch on track.
The video also shows off the brass balls of The Stig, who gets withing a couple of hair-widths away from clipping tire walls while doing triple-digit speeds.
We don’t get to watch episodes of Top Gear right away, here in the ‘States, but we can’t wait to see this one. We’re curious as to what Chris Harris and The Stig think about the latest Audi RS6 Avant.
