Audi is adding yet another plug-in hybrid to its current crop of electrified vehicles. At the moment, the Audi Q5, A7 and A8 are all offered with hybrid powertrains but the newest addition is likely the most stylish — the Audi Q8 TFSI e.
Okay, okay, so the Audi A7 is actually the best looking of that bunch. But SUVs are more popular and the Q8 is arguably more stylish than the A7 due to its big, imposing demeanor. So it’s now the most stylish hybrid SUV on the market and in Audi’s lineup.
Under the hood is familiar powertains: a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6, which makes 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, that will pair with an electric motor and 17.3 kWh battery. However, there will be two flavors of the Audi Q8 TFSI e; 55 and 60 (don’t ask what those numbers are supposed to reference because we’re still confused by it all). The Audi Q8 55 TFSI e will make a combined total system power of 375 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. While the Audi Q8 60 TFSI e will make a total of 455 horsepower and 516 lb-ft.
The ’55 model will get from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds, while the more powerful ’60 model will do it in 5.4 seconds. To be honest, that four tenths of a second advantage isn’t all that impressive, considering the ’60 will be more expensive. Plus, the less powerful ’55 model gets ever-so-slightly more electric range, with 29.2 miles on the WLTP-cycle, versus the ’60 model, which gets 28 miles.
Aside from that, the Audi Q8 TFSI e isn’t really any different from any of its other hybrid siblings. So it gets the same driving modes, which include the pure electric mode, a battery hold mode and an auto mode, the latter of which uses electric and gas propulsion as it sees fit. All of these modes we’ve outlines several times before for previous cars.
The Q8 TFSI e gets an S-Line package as standard, which comes with blacked-out trim, “S” badges and slick looking wheels, in addition to as-standard Matrix LED headlights and air suspension. So all hybrid Q8s will look good and come well-equipped.
Presales for the Audi Q8 TFSI e start now and the ’55 model starts at EUR 75,351, while the ’60 model starts at EUR 92,800.
