Is the Audi SQ7 an Uber-Fast Family-Mobile?

There are a handful of vehicles on the planet that are about as close to no-compromise, do-it-all machines as possible. It seems that you can add the new Audi SQ7 to that list, as it’s essentially a family-mobile that can tow a boat, seat seven passengers and also slay sports cars on both the drag strip and a winding road. In this new review from Automobile Mag, we get to take a look at exactly why that is.

Under the hood of the Audi SQ7 is a familiar 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that makes a whopping 500 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. That helps it get from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, which is fast enough to take on most sports cars.

Sure, the Audi RS Q8 is even more powerful and even faster but it’s also more expensive. Plus, the Audi SQ7 has a trick up its sleeve — three rows of seats. Because the SQ7 is a true seven-seater, it’s by far the better family vehicle than the RS Q8. In fact, it also makes it the better family vehicle than the BMW X5 M, Mercedes-AMG GLE63 and Jaguar F-Pace SVR. So if you want a fast SUV that can truly do it all, the SQ7 is about as close as you’re going to get.

Almost all of the aforementioned SUVs are faster and some handle better but the Audi SQ7 handles pretty damn well, from what we understand. Thanks to all of its clever chassis tech, such as active anti-roll bars, all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, the big Audi is far more capable than its size or weight suggest. It’s said to corner flat, have precise steering and capable brakes, all despite weighing as much as a moon. Impressive.

So while the Audi RS Q8 is faster and maybe cooler looking, it’s hard to be the Swiss-Army-Knife-utility of the SQ7.
